Salvation Army Blue Island Community Center Ground Breaking     

 

 

Joseph J. Duffy Company is the builder of Salvation Army’s latest Community Center located in Blue Island, the Mt. Greenwood/Blue Island Corp. The project consists of demolition of existing buildings, site redevelopment, a new 20,000 SF precast gym and new offices. When finished, the new center and a renovated structure will have a community activity area, a seniors’ component, a new chapel totaling over 38,000 SF of area on a 1.4 acre site. This is another project that Duffy has constructed for the Salvation Army. Duffy was the low bidder on a competitive lump sum bid; Dudley Utyro & Associates are the Architects for the project. The project is scheduled for completion in late 2009. 

A ground breaking ceremony was held November 13th.  In attendance were Lt. Colonel David & Sherri Grindle of the Salvation Army, Blue Island 4th ward Alderman Mark L. Rutherberg, Sr. Commission Representative Mrs. Joan Scannell, Blue Island Mayor Donald Peloquin, 28th District State Representative Robert Rita and Blue Island Youth Representative, Ms. Amy Waters.

Catholic Charities Breaks Ground for New Independent Living Facility in Palos Park, IL

 

  

Joseph J. Duffy Company announces a new project for The Catholic Charities Housing Development Corp that began in 2008 in Palos Park, Ill at a ground breaking for a new 81 Independent Living Facility, the St. Francis of Assisi Residence. The new development is located at the Holy Family Villa Campus in Palos Park located in a scenic and wooded area. Designed by Harley Ellis Devereaux the residence contains 81 apartments, with complete kitchens, multipurpose areas, fitness activity/wellness facilities and a library. An energy grant, DCEO, helped fund-sustainable features covering lighting, insulation air handling and efficient mechanical equipment. 

On May 14th a groundbreaking ceremony, which includes 5 acres of site development, was held for the St. Francis of Assisi Residence. This project is the result of the collaborative efforts of the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, HUD, Federal Home Loan Bank, Ill., IHDA and the Illinois Dept. of Commerce & Economic Opportunity. The Harley Ellis Devereaux Architects’ Andy Jaworski, Mark Jones & Charlene Andreas were present. Presiding over the ceremonies was the very Rev. Jon Canary, Vicar General Archdiocese of Chicago. In attendance were Rev. Michael M. Boland, Adm. Pres. & CEO Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, Jude Zwick Chairman. Catholic Charities Bd. Of Directors, William D’Arcy Div. Mgr. Catholic Charities Residential Housing and Gracia Shiffrin Assistant Div. Mgr. of Catholic Charities as well as the Mayor of Palos Park John F. Mahoney.

-          In an effort to reduce paper usage and consumption along with power usage and consumption, Joseph J. Duffy continues to adapt its bidding process.  Through this ever evolving process, Duffy has been able to eliminate, 95% of the power and paper previously used in sending out their invitations to bid.
-          Duffy continues to recycle up to 50% of job site generated waste.
-          Duffy is currently working on jobs seeking LEED, IHDA Green Initiative, and Chicago Green Housing accreditation.
-          In an effort to save energy, the summer time air conditioned temperature in Duffy’s office never goes below 75°.
